Coastal Urge is an active coastal lifestyle store, providing all your needs for a day on the water from swimwear and cover-ups to standup paddleboards. The idea for the store came from the owners’ lives and interests. Both Catherine and Jeoffrey Nathan grew up on the water and have enjoyed the activities that come along with being on the coast. So together, they decided to open a store that catered to those like-minded individuals interested in enjoying the outdoors. They decided to fill their shop with designer bikinis, standup paddle boards, active wear and anything else one might need to fulfill their “coastal urge.”

With stand up paddleboarding’s popularity growing exponentially around the world, the timing for the opening of Coastal Urge was perfect. Holding three races a year, the frequency and size of these events has bloomed, getting national attention not only in the paddling circuits but grabbing the attention of the general public as well.

Coastal Urge also puts on plenty of events to keep local paddlers on the water. In 2009, they founded SUP Cleanup, a nonprofit that organizes beach sweeps on islands only accessible by boat or paddle. The goal is to rid the oceans, beaches and spoil islands of trash and debris that washes up or gets left behind. The organization’s monthly cleanups have resulted in hundreds of pounds of litter being removed from the waters and getting properly disposed. There is also a bi-weekly SUP Race Club to time paddlers on the Intracoastal Waterway race course for friendly practice between races. Paddlers also have the opportunity to demo paddles and boards from Coastal Urge or from fellow racers and exchange information on paddling form and new products on the market. Providing another forum for paddlers to learn, Coastal Urge also hosts paddling clinics. Professional watermen and women come to share their expertise during hands-on instructional sessions throughout the year.
